The show promises a lavish recounting of the historical incidents that helped the Chola dynasty establish itself as a strong kingdom on the Southern subcontinent in the tenth century. The screenplay for Ponniyin Selvan: Part One was written by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan, and Kumaravel and is based on the best-selling book by Kalki Krishnamurthy on the life of Raja Raja Chozhan. The first movie in a planned two-part series is titled PS1.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Nandini, Vikram plays Aditya Karikalan, Karthi plays Vanthiyathevan, Trisha plays Kundhavai, and Jayam Ravi plays Arulmozhi Varman. Ashwin Kakumanu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Rahman, Lal, Jayachitra, and Riyaz Khan are just a few of the notable actors who play crucial roles in the magnum opus.
The technical team includes maestro Brinda for choreography, Eka Lakhani for costumes, Vikram Gaikwad for makeup, Ravi Varman for cinematography, Sreekar Prasad for editing, Thotta Tharani for production design, Jeyamohan for dialogue, and others.
